Improving organizations through new visual tools for organizing functional data

with Burr Stewart

Participants prep - bring a list of your current duties and responsibilities, for both internal and external positions. The list should be 8 to 15 short sentences or phrases describing the responsibilities you most commonly perform.

Burr Stewart will facilitate the meeting and dialog on the topic of “improving organizations through new visual tools for organizing functional data”. Burr will share some of his recent work with startups seeking to understand and map the ways that workers, departments, companies and industries function and interact in ways that have consistent symantics around the world. (e.g. www.home.locus and www.matheasel.com ). His definition of function is “resources+activities=outcomes.” Discussion questions will involve barriers to visual communications inside companies and how to reduce the vulnerability often experienced when sharing functional data, and the power of functional visibility in developing a sense of “meaning”.

Burr Stewart. Strategic Advisor and Project Developer. Burr has been an advisor to hi-tech startups, consulting firms and public agencies since 2010, in the areas of community economic development, project management, sustainability and strategic planning. He has developed and managed airport master plans, state rail plans, new runways, IT integration strategies, climate change programs, sustainability strategies, organizational development programs, operational and financial modeling, and stakeholder outreach.

Burr holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from Harvard University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a frequent speaker on sustainability related strategic planning and visual communication of complex systems.
