Family of Origin’s Role in Leading and Consulting: How Understanding Your Past Can Transform Your Present

What can leaders, team members and relationship partners do to get unstuck from chronically repeating modes of behavior that hurt their work performance and relationships?  What can they do improve alignment, goal attainment and harmony? Brenda and Denny will present their process of family of origin exploration and describe how it helps leaders, team members and relationship partners understand the primary source of the emotional reactivity that underlies their ineffective behaviors. This method guides us in re-entering our family of origin to understand our family’s unique evolution and relationship dynamics.  These insights reveal how that relationship system became a source of deeply ingrained behaviors that affect our present-day behavior. This awareness lays the foundation for achieving increased self-differentiation, which is the heart of authentic leadership, individual performance and relationship health.

About Your Presenters

Brenda and Denny are in their fifth decade of working to improve human systems as educators, consultants, business owners and family therapists. They were leaders and faculty members in the LIOS Graduate Program for over 20 years, where they created the Counseling Track and pioneered the family of origin curriculum. Along with their consulting partner Bob Crosby, they worked with Alcoa to create the Corporate Master’s Degree Program. Brenda and Denny also created and led a one-year High Performance Leadership Program for Alcoa leaders from1999-2008. They returned to their counseling roots 12 years ago and now work as a co-therapy team focusing exclusively on counseling couples at their Conscious Couples Institute in Bellevue.
