Reducing the Cost of Defensive Behavior on Business

A Virtual Presentation - Ethan Schutz will present live via Zoom.

This presentation will involve a group experiential  activity that will highlight workplace defensive behaviors often missed. And then offer possibilities to increase workplace productivity.

Defensive behavior in the workplace costs our businesses. And, we hardly even notice. Yet, if we were to measure the cost of defensiveness on a business the way we measure ordinary expenses, we would be appalled. Consider how much time and effort is lost to people protecting themselves, avoiding conflict, maneuvering, criticizing, and gossiping.

The workplace has become increasingly stressful for most people and under stress many of us become defensive — that is we feel threatened, triggered, and our behavior becomes dysfunctional. We lose time, effort, trust, creativity, and productivity suffers.

Imagine what it would mean if we could reduce defensiveness in the workplace by 10%. In dollars and time spent alone it would make a measurable impact on the bottom line.

In this session, Ethan Schutz returns to PNODN to discuss defensive behavior, why we do it, and what we can do to help our teams focus more on work and less on defending ourselves and each other. PNODN President Chris Crosby will assist Ethan in the experiential activities.
