Group Process - Practical Brainstorming Sequence

Chris Crosby

"Learn one of the most practical and useful sequences I do"

Many practitioners think of brainstorming as the act of generating ideas. The generation phase is but one step in an effective brainstorm sequence and in fact can pose a challenge if the practitioner does not use a structured approach. Come learn a complete sequence of brainstorming that is highly structured an applicable to all workplaces. The sequence is practical and powerful and, once learned, can be used in full or in part on an ad hoc basis to help any group quickly manage a list of items. If you have ever 1) seen a group generate a list of problems, yet fail to reduce them to a manageable list of actions, 2) seen a group use votes rather than logic to determine their course of action, 3) heard a leader say, “Well it looks like we are all in agreement that X is the course of action” without really knowing the differing beliefs in the group, and found yourself frustrated and not sure what to do, then the following sequence is what you need. It provides simple ways to resolve such dilemmas.

By learning this sequence of brainstorming, you can quickly reduce lists, balance votes with constructive conversations and clear decision making, and get rapid feedback on what options the different members of the group think are the most critical.

At the end of the presentation, the participants will:

  • Lead any group through a highly structured sequence that includes distinct steps and ground rules to ensure a vetted list of actions.
  • Identify and direct any group that gets stuck at any stage while working with a large list of items.
  • Sequence can be used in part or in whole depending on your situation.
