OD Workshop Series - Change Management 101

Faith Addicott

This training will be conducted live via Zoom. The zoom meeting details will be sent out prior to the training.

The essence of change is to move from one state to another, to become something different in form or content from what was before. Change can be in processes, structures, teams, or states of mind. Change is NOT instantaneous, and so there is always a space where both the old state and the new state are true, the liminal space of ambiguity. Almost no one is comfortable or confident when asked to occupy this space, and most will tend to revert to old behaviors of the new paradigm isn't well communicated.

This is why we attempt to 'manage' change - it's not really about managing the change itself, although that is important. It is mostly about managing PEOPLE- their expectations, comfort, willingness, and trust of the change process. In this session, we'll explore some of the emerging wisdom around holding people both safe and accountable as we ask them to change their work and their worlds.

By the end of this program, you'll be able to:

  • Basic understanding of what 'change management' actually is.
  • A few frameworks or ideas about how to discuss and implement change in your orgs.
  • The courage to speak up for change that works, not just working change.
