PNODN Workshop - Accountability as Relational Practice

   Verhanika Willhelm

Join us on February 10 from 5-7 PM PT for a session with our own Verhanika Willhelm

In this workshop, organizational development practitioners will learn to redefine accountability not as a punitive measure, but as a relational practice that builds trust and fosters connection. Through a mix of reflection and practical exercises, participants will explore how cultural narratives about accountability—shaped by systems of oppression—can damage relationships and limit growth. They’ll also engage in an exercise to develop scripts for holding themselves and others accountable in ways that prioritize empathy and repair harm, not punishment.

Learning Objectives for this Session

  • Re-frame Accountability as Relational Practice: Understand that accountability is about staying in relationship and maintaining trust, rather than using it as a tool for control or punishment.
  • Examine Cultural Narratives and Harmful Practices of Accountability: Explore how cultural stories around accountability, rooted in systems of oppression, have shaped harmful approaches to responsibility in the workplace.
  • Develop Scripts for Accountable Conversations in Personal and Professional Relationships: Engage in an exercise to practice creating scripts for accountability conversations, focusing on past instances where you were held accountable in harmful ways and learning to re-frame those situations with care and clarity.
